Even If you excuse yourself from buying a spare SIM card for the sake of low call tariff or simply making unlimited calls, you too may sometimes like to have more than one handset.  A spare handset becomes a necessity due to problems like weak signal strength, poor services and host of other things, which you may experience with your current service provider.

When confronted with the idea of buying a new budget mobile phone, the thought that comes with it, is the quality of the handset. You may ask yourself, 'why to bother which low budget mobile phone to buy, when there are so many to buy for a song?' While consumers are spoilt for choices, it is good to do your homework, before you buy your spare low budget mobile phone. You will appreciate the quality of a handset after using it for some time later when all the frenzy impressions of the brand new handset is gone except the performance.

A low budget mobile phone does not necessarily be a low quality one and a mere conventional telephone. Of course, you may have to sacrifice certain features that mid or high range mobile phone has to offer. However, quite many low budget mobile phones offer features, which are comparable to their mid-range handset. India is witnessing unprecedented growing number of mobile users every year. Further, availability of low priced, feature rich local mobile phone brands have proliferated the market, causing the number of mobile phone users to surge. Unfortunately, many of the budget mobile phone consumers become dissatisfied soon after they discover that their mobile phone does not deliver what it promised or they are not simply good at doing certain tasks. This article will describe about certain factors to consider before you buy your budget mobile phone. These factors will guide you to choose and buy a budget mobile phone that will offer maximum value for your money an! d render better user experience, without compromising the quality.

1. Talk time of mobile phone

It is important to check out the talk time of any mobile phone before buying one. Talk time denotes the amount of time a mobile phone's battery can last when the phone is used to make or receive calls. Talk time of a mobile is usually denoted in hours. More the talk time duration better is the battery backup. Conversely, standby time indicates the amount of time a fully charged mobile phone can be left turned on before the phone will completely drain the battery. Talk time that indicates a phone's battery backup, as phone consumes maximum power when it is used to receive or make calls.  Do not buy a mobile phone if the talk time duration is less than five hours. However, if you find other features in that handset to be irresistible (like if are inclined to a brand), go for it (honestly, I will not recommend it). Otherwise, you will soon find it is annoying to charge the handset repeatedly.

2. Battery capacity

A battery's capacity is measured in mAh or milliamp hours. A battery with 1000 mAh and more offers better talk time and standby time. If you wish to use your mobile phone for other than talking, like listening to music or browse web choose a mobile phone that offers good backup.

3. Memory

Inbuilt memory may be very miserly even in mid-range handsets and budget handsets are no exception to this. Now you can store more songs and videos without choking your handsets' inbuilt memory, thanks to expandable memory. If you choose to stock up music, photos and videos buy a handset that offers a minimum of 2 GB expandable memory. You will be surprised to see that many basic handsets offer 4 to 8 GB expandable memory or even 32 GB!

4. Multimedia features

A budget mobile phone may not deliver a rich multimedia experience like a smartphone. However, you could expect to get decent audio and video features in budget mobile phones. If you are a music lover and wish to have better listening experience, you may wish to change the default headphone that comes with the handset and use good quality one instead. To use a standard music headphone, you need 3.5 mm audio jack present in the handset. Therefore, it is better buy a mobile phone that comes with standard 3.5mm headphone jack. Almost all mobile that comes with audio player can play the popular MP3 format. Audio converters come handy to convert audio files in other formats to MP3. If you like to take photos or shoot videos look for a decent camera. You may not be able to point and shoot great photos and videos with camera of a budget mobile but if you like to shoot decent photos and videos you may have to go for higher end handsets. Also, check out the playback capability ! of a handset. Your phone should support playing well-known video formats like 3gp or MP4. That makes sure you can at least playback the videos you receive through Bluetooth from your friends instantly, rather than turning to utilities for converting the videos to the format your handset supports.

5. Data and connectivity

GPRS access in the handset can help you do useful stuff like Google search, check your email, download games, ringtones, wall papers and host of other things. A budget mobile phone's browser may offer limited web surfing and support WAP (Wide Area Protocol) for accessing mobile web / XHTML (Extensible Hypertext Markup Language) or rarely HTML.  Bluetooth and GPRS are indispensable for sharing contents and remain connected to World Wide Web. So look for a mobile phone that offers Bluetooth and GPRS connectivity.

Additionally surf the web to read reviews about the handset, read carefully the specifications of the mobile phone you wish to buy, and find if the handset can perform what you want to do with it.
